Online (Asynchronous)
Definition:
In an online class, all course activity occurs online; there are no
required real-time or on campus meetings. All content is
delivered in Canvas. Coursework does have due dates as set by
the instructor, but can be completed, once the content becomes
available, at any time before the due date.
In a real-time online class, course meetings occur virtually on
Zoom. The course meetings occur at scheduled days and times.
Instructors will use Canvas to disseminate grades and potentially
other class content, such as documents, discussions, and
announcements. At the start of the semester, a detailed
schedule for the term, with Zoom meetings, will be posted on
IVC's Schedule Site and in Canvas.
In a HyFlex class, all course meetings are held face-to-face at IVC or a designated physical site, and may also be attended
virtually, via Zoom (or the district-approved video conferencing platform). The course meetings occur at scheduled days and
times. Instructors may still use Canvas or other software products to enhance the class outside of the face-to-face meetings,
such as by posting documents, discussions, and announcements. High-stake assessments, such as mid-term or final will be the

This course includes the teacher's role in prevention strategies, nutrition and meal planning, integrating health, safety and nutrition experiences into the daily routines, and overall risk management to ensure physical health, mental health and safety for both children and staff. This course focuses on the appropriate use of assessment and observation tools and strategies to document young children's development, growth, and learning. Includes the use of findings to inform and plan learning environments, curriculum, and experiences. Recording strategies, rating systems, portfolios, and multiple assessment methods/tools will be discussed along with strategies for collaboration with families and professionals. Prerequisites: CDEV 100; CDEV 103, CDEV/PSY 104; CDEV 105; CDEV 106; CDEV 107; and 4.0/5.0 units from the following: CDEV 120, CDEV 121, CDEV 122, CDEV 123, or CDEV 124; TB clearance is required for students participating in laboratory work. Students must also verify immunizations against pertussis-DTAP, measles-MMR, and influenza (waiver allowed for influenza). A demonstration of developmentally appropriate early childhood program planning and teaching competencies under guided supervision. Students will utilize practical classroom experiences to make connections between theory and practice, develop professional behaviors, and build a comprehensive understanding of children and families. Reflective practice will be emphasized as student teachers design, implement, and evaluate approaches, strategies, and techniques that promote development and learning, including child-centered, play-oriented approaches to teaching and learning. Knowledge of curriculum content areas will be stressed. Includes exploration of career pathways, professional development, and teacher responsibilities. As a component of this course, students will be required to present a Comprehensive Portfolio following the Department's portfolio guidelines and complete a successful program exit interview. This course will prepare students to develop and implement an infant and/or toddler curriculum, including the design of a developmentally appropriate learning environment. It will apply current theory and research to the care and education of infants and toddlers in group settings. Examines essential policies, principles and practices that lead to quality care and developmentally appropriate curriculum for children birth to 36 months. Students must put in 5 Hrs. Applicable to required or professional development units for Child Development Permit holders, pre-school, transitional kindergarten, and early-primary teachers. (CSU)
